The term special educational needs and disabilities includes a broad range of learning needs. They may need various or additional support to help them thrive and reach their potential and could have a range of needs that may change over time. The SEND Code of Practice states these pupils may need extra help, nurture and support because of a range of additional needs which may include:
- communication and interaction
- concentration levels, for example attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- reading and writing, for example dyslexia
- cognition and learning
- social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH) – social anxiety, confidence or self-esteem
- sensory and/or physical needs – sensory issues include hearing and visual impairments. Physical needs include physical disabilities, and motor skills difficulties.
All education settings have a duty to be accessible and inclusive for the children within their community. It is our mission to support parents in providing the best possible education for our children.
Brackley STEAM Park provides for pupils ages 4-11 with a broad range of special educational needs including those with:
- Communication and interaction needs; this includes children who have speech and language and communication difficulties including autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) – a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how children interact with others, communicate and learn.
- Cognition and language needs; this includes children who have learning difficulties and specific learning difficulties like dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia. The ability to understand things.
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)
- Sensory and/or Physical needs; this includes children who have visual or hearing needs, or a physical disability that affects their learning.
