Role Description
Brackley STEAM Park Academy are seeking passionate and ambitious volunteers to support class sessions with pupils ages 4-11. As a Student Volunteer, you will be assisting with various day-to-day tasks including after school STEAM clubs to support the educational provision and extracurricular activities for pupils with SEND. You will collaborate closely with us to deliver captivating lessons and support their learning including one-to-one and listen to them read. By volunteering with us as a student teacher or educator volunteer, you will have the opportunity to develop valuable skills and knowledge in teaching, leadership, senior roles, primary education and communication to advance skills and experience whilst having a love for learning. This is an on-site role located in Brackley, West Northamptonshire.
There are various volunteering roles from clerical, leadership duties, supporting class sessions helping and assisting pupils learn. See below list of areas;
Clerical areas
- Adding and updating policies where required.
- Checking and updating registration and referral forms
- Safeguarding policy
- Updating our term dates
- Updating medical records
- Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
- UK GDPR
- Generating new enhanced DBS application forms for new volunteer members
- Updating our insurances
- Marketing research
Leadership or senior roles
- Communication and liaison with SENCO and headteachers.
- Close contact with Education Commissioner at West Northamptonshire Council
- Contact with local councillors
- General education duties offering guidance and help
Supporting and assisting sessions and trips
- Supporting our class sessions and activities with SEND pupils during school hours e.g. morning or afternoon
- Helping out with our after school clubs from 4-6pm with club activities
- Saturday clubs
- Assisting and overseeing offsite educational field trips
Experience & Skills
- Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) but not required
- Ability to support pupils in a calm and quiet class setting including busier sessions
- Understanding of social, emotional and mental health and its impact on learning
- Familiarity with various needs, such as ASD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, OCD, and PDA
- Ability to encourage independent play & learn and exploration
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience and empathy
- Willingness to work as part of a small team
- Knowledge in education and child development
